Property Description
INTRODUCTION Jersey House was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries by an entrepreneur as a weaver's workshop. These, first in the world, factories consisted of the entrepreneur supplying 4 or 5 looms, the warp and the weft and paying local weavers a wage to come and weave for him.

Previously these weavers very likely worked in their own homes with their wife and children in the, common at the time, cottage industry of producing cloth. The "economies of scale" probably meant they were better off working for the entrepreneur.

This small factory system lasted until approximately 1826 when the industrial revolution meant that cloth woven in this way became uneconomical. The then owner reacted by splitting the house in two and building the attached barn. One half of the house became a farmhouse, Jersey Farm, whilst the other half and new barn were used as stalls for a dozen or so cows with hay and straw etc. storage over.

The animal housing slowly fell into decay and after several owners the "half-house" and barn were bought by the present owners in 1982 who upgraded them into an Ecohouse that could be your home.
